Written By: The Grindylow on November 20, 2009 12 Comments

I am using OS window vista business edition. I download movies from mininova. I want to convert them into DVD which I can play on my Bose Lifestyle system. The DVD which I make using windows/ Roxio can not be played it gives message “Format Unsupported”. I tried Nero 9 trial version but DVD option doesnot work.

This is actually a very simple problem: your DVD player is a standard one, and will not play DivX or Xvid encoded AVI files.
Here’s the simplest way to go about it. Get yourself a good burning software suite like Nero or Ashampoo Burning Studio — I use Ashampoo myself. But these have to be the Complete Versions, not trial ones, else they will not do this.
You just choose to burn to DVD, I use an external USB DVD burner for burning my DVDs, and so far, all my DVDs are playing on my home theater system.

If you want to burn any movies to DVD, then play it well on any DVD player, you should use the right software to create standard video DVD
from your movies, there is an easy way and the better choice, you can try RZ DVD Creator, it can create standard video DVD from any movies, it can auto fit the size, it can burn mulit movies to one disc, it can easy design professional dynamic DVD title and chapter menu, it can create 5.1 AC-3 surround sound DVD from any movies, it can directly convert and burn any movies to DVD(DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-DL, DVD+DL, etc), such as avi to DVD, etc.
Work well on my computer, good quality, easy to use, following is a step by step guide about video DVD Burner:http://www.rzdvdcreator.com/rzavitodvdco…

I’m not familiar with “mininova,” but you’re obviously burning your DVD in the original format downloaded and that format is NOT a DVD format (VOB file type).
It’s probably much smaller than an actual DVD, which means it might be DivX or Xvid.
What you need is a video converter. The best one on the market is TMPGEnc. There ARE some free versions and some trial versions. You’ll want to find out what format your original downloaded movie is using for compression (codec).
This little tool will tell you exactly what audio AND video codecs are being used or needed for any audio or video file. It’s free (start here):http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
Download GSpot and install (I think it MIGHT be stand-alone).
Then go to THIS site and get the necessary TMPGEnc (Encoder):http://www.tmpgenc.net/en/index.html
Here is a GREAT resource for ALL your video needs, whether it’s creation, copying, encoding, analysis, codecs, etc.http://www.videohelp.com/
There’s everything you need. WARNING: A full length movie can take anywhere from 12-20 hours to properly encode, but you can just start it encoding and then go to work or go about your business and TMPGEnc will do all the work. Be SURE you “LOAD” the DVD NTSC file for proper encoding to USA DVD format. DVD PAL is a Europe or foreign based system and runs at a different frame rate).

You can’t. The bose system don’t have the codex for it. You buy a simple 20 dollar multiformat dvd player and it’ll work but not on an expensive bose system.

try DVD shrink 3.2, I don’t think Vista Busisness is the right version to be using, maybe home premium would have been better?

I agree with the first commenter — and yes, I use a DIGISTOR USB DVD drive myself. Bought it from here -> http://www.amazon.com/External-Burner-Tray-Load-Drive-DIGISTOR/dp/B002I9J7JG

It’s easy if you have good burning software.

    I have the same problem.

First I noticed the Bose system is only able to read DVD-R and DVD-RW. So no +’s.

Although it should play Divx, it isn’t able to read my data dvd’s (just 6 movies on 1 dvd without a menu) I burned. I then made a DVD with a menu with Powerproducer but then only 1 movie fits onto 1 disc.

I used to be able to burn DIVX with a menu with this software on my previous pc but now the ‘divx’ option with 6 movies on 1 disc isn’t there anymore. I also tried Nero 9, WMP, and a few others but none of them worked.
