My midwife advised me to have sex as often as I could. She said that there is something in semen that would cause the cervix to ripen. After I was 5 days overdue and miserable with no induction in sight, I caved and got jiggy with the hubby. Wouldn't ya know it? The next morning I started contracting regularly and had a beautiful baby girl that evening!

You need to follow the advice of the doctor. The old adage of riding down a bumpy road in a pick up truck, or jumping up and down will not increase your process. Neither will eating spicy hot foods or taking a hot shower. Your baby will come when it is ready to be born. If you are having contractions, you can try walking around alot, but this can go on for hours. My water broke and I was not dilated enough to go into labor, so they had me walking the halls at the hospital. I walked for several hours before the process began. Just keep in touch with your doctor. Good luck and God bless. I pray that you give birth to a happy healthy baby.

I walked walked and walked some more, round and round the mall from morning to evening. I called my doc and cried of all the pain I was in and could not stand it any longer and he told me to come in and induced labor. I was at 2 cm the day before but by the time I got to the hospital I was at 4 almost 5 so the walking helped tremendously! Walking helps bring the baby down into position and contracts the cervix. Good luck!

i was told by my aunt to use black or blue cohosh. and take them every few hours and each time increasing by i pill untill u make it to 4 pills. at the same time take a hot bath and drink cornsilk and rasberry tea for easy labor and less bleeding. it worked with her and all her kids as well as their kids but didnk work for me. although i did keep drinking the tea and i had a natural birth with no meds and have pain but nnot horrible not to mention i didn't bleed that long. and since all are natural it will not harm you or the baby.
Good Luck to you and you new baby
hope all is well
and congradulations

From the site listed as reference:
As for helping Mother Nature along on your own, there are several helpful hints. Most of these fall into the category of "old wives' tales," but some may do the trick nonetheless. Intercourse is one method; semen contains prostaglandins and may stimulate labor. However, be sure not have sex once your membranes have ruptured or if you have been diagnosed with placenta previa! Driving on bumpy roads and scrubbing floors are two other tricks. Some women swear by drinking castor oil (I personally would rather carry the baby a bit longer rather than resort to castor oil -- yuck!) or eating certain foods. I've heard there is a restaurant somewhere whose pregnant patrons order a certain salad when they are ready to deliver; where I live and practice, women used to line up for the bean burritos prepared by one eatery (unfortunately out of business now or I'd have one of those burritos myself soon!).
Here is the advice I give my patients who are near their due date and who are getting anxious to meet baby face-to-face: take a drive on a bumpy road, go home and scrub the floors, then eat some spicy food and have sex! It won't hurt, and at least you'll have a clean kitchen and won't be hungry!
